IN HONOR OF THE VII CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DE LA LENGUA ESPAÑOLA – CILE
Puerto Rico 2016
Known as "the writers' photographer," Daniel Mordzinski has been working on his ambitious "human atlas" of Iber-american literature for 38 years. The Argentine photographer, who lives between Paris and Madrid, has created portraits of the most important figures in Latin-American literature. The author of numerous books, Mordzinski's works are continuously exhibited in Latin America's most important museums and are included in the best collections of contemporary photography. He is an important literary festivals photographer.
Objetivo Mordzinski is a photographic approach to the Latin American literary creation, from the perspective of the artist Daniel Mordinski who works portraying writers for more that three decades and includes among his works numerous publications of photography about literature, in particular, about texts in the Spanish language.
Objetivo Mordzinski is an ongoing project to continue building the intangible geography, but clearly visible to readers and viewers around the world, which is literature in Spanish, and claim not only their importance but also the Spanish itself as language, industry and brand identity worldwide.
The exhibition consists of photographs, mostly unpublished and his new production. In this exhibition core a section linked to the International Congress of Spanish Language celebrated this year in Puerto Rico with images of writers of that country, as well as Mario Vargas Llosa and Emilio Lledó, guests of honor.
AGAINST THE REIVER OF TIME by Mario Vargas Llosa
Daniel Mordzinski read those books written in Latin America and photographed their authors, sometimes in their own countries but more often in the capital of Latin American literature, as Octavio Paz described Paris in a famous essay.
However, it is not enough to say that Mordzinski “photographed the authors,” because those images, which he snatched from the river of time with his camera and affixed to the cardboard that all publishers, writers and readers are familiar with, are really a profound and respectful interpretation of their personalities exactly as they are reflected in their features, faces and expressions. And, oddly enough, these portraits enrich our understanding of the books they write, because they awaken in us, the readers, a sympathetic attitude towards these writers.
Daniel Mordzinski does not use those who pose for him to showcase his talents and indulge himself with flashy posturing like so many fashion photographers do. He does a service to those he photographs with his efforts to capture their profound truth while attempting to disappear behind the camera. This is why Daniel Mordzinski’s portraits have an authenticity that is a central ingredient of their artistic beauty.
