Creators of Installations. Twins, Javier Suárez Berrocal and Jaime Suárez Berrocal work in collaboration under a production manifesto referred to as Vientre Compartido (Shared Belly). In 2007 and 2008 they obtained BFA’s from the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus. In 2010 they obtained their Masters in Artistic Production from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia with majors in Public Art. During their stay in Spain, they started to investigate topics about minimal interventions in natural environments, developing sensible execution concepts and strategies on the environment. They are notable for "Land Art" installations using natural materials.
We attempt to modify nature by trying initially, to establish a production method as sustainable as possible, one that involves a minimum environmental impact during the creative process and that engages in a dialogue with its surroundings. We use materials original to the site we intervene. The idea is not to deposit materials that afterwards remain in the landscape as waste or pollution. Materials should degrade until the renewal of preexisting conditions of the location. An extraction of natural resources is never done, but on the contrary, a return to the location to which they correspond. In some cases we have been able to regenerate nature through artistic practice. That is our ethical commitment to the environment.
This collaborative creative process we have called "symbiotic automatism". Working jointly we display a creation through an exclusive method of technical cooperation. We intend to make the intervened space turn its fantastic reality into a kind of shared belly that preserves the traditions, values and ethnic cultural principles in the field of globalized contemporary dilemmas.
