Painter, illustrator, printmaker and sculptor. He received a bachelor’s degree in arts from the Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts of San Juan in 1979. He complemented his artistic learning in the workshops of artists such as Andy Bueso and Fran Cervoni, and with trips to different places such as New York, where he joined the Printmaking Workshop, Mexico, where he worked at Leo Acosta’s workshop, and Paris around 1991. In the nineties he delved into the sculpture genre and was able to form part of the Urban Art Project of the Municipality of San Juan by creating bronze sculptures that were placed in public squares of Old San Juan. He has been recognized with awards such as the prize for printmaking at the IV San Juan Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Printmaking, Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, San Juan (1979) and first prize in painting from the Arana Foundation (1991). He also has exhibited his work in countries such as Puerto Rico, the United States, Spain, Mexico, France and Germany. His work, successor to the language of artists like Marc Chagall, Joan Miró and Remedios Varo, is characterized by its portrayal of enchanted settings into which the artist invites us to enter, although he is also interested in the landscape theme.
"Risk urges its validity in the craft of the painter. I affirm this because my experience painting has confirmed it to me again and again. This is a problem that you face every day, never resolve it categorically. This trade has, like life, its comforts and its pains, its pleasures and its displeasures. I set-out from a perception, from something that is in front of me, from something that manifests itself in my unconscious. I decide to work on it in a particular way, with a defined methodology, with a color, with a palette, with an execution, with everything that in the world of art is called style. I create it, I do a series of paintings that intertwined, be it, by reason, a figure that is repeated in one way or another in the different canvases. I document the work, do a production, present it in an exhibition. But there are things that are in my unconscious, things that I can't nor want to suppress. Things that demand my artistic creativity, variety in the theme, innovation in the approach to the canvas, permanence in the discipline, in the rigor of the drawing, in the quality of the work, in the credibility and validity of my work."
