Sculptor, graphic and new media artist. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. During his formative years he worked as assistant to sculptors such as Melquíades Rosario Sastre, Ramón Berríos and Perellano Soucy. Parallel to his work as an artist, Sierra Vega serves currently as a freelance graphic designer and as a designer of exhibitions. Some distinctions he has been worthy of include: First Prize Poster for "Retorno 1903-2003”, Universidad de Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus and an Honorable Mention in Certamen de Artes Plásticas of Ateneo Puertorriqueño (both in 2001); First Prize for Design, Bombay Sapphire Cup (2003); First Prize for Puerto Rican Artists Collective, 26th Graphics Biennial, Ljubljana, Slovenia (2005) and Honorable Mention at Certamen de Arte Joven, Oriental Group (2009). His work has been exhibited internationally in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Japan, Slovenia, Mexico, Portugal and United States, among others, and is part of prestigious private and institutional collections such as Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC), Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR) and Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (MHAA). His work is recognized for his prints and sculptures of social, political and military conflicts criticism.
“I don't feel intimidated talking about the effects of war. Perhaps in this country people will feel uncomfortable that I work the theme in comparison with an international audience where there is more progress and correspondence. Here we are a little repressed about that, we do not want to completely accept the information".
