Description

Biography

Ceramicist. Hambleton came to Puerto Rico in 1963. In the seventies she was part of the Manos group of ceramicists interested in exploring the artistic possibilities of clay. In 1980, she became a founding member of Casa Candina, along with Susana Espinosa, Bernardo Hogan, and Jaime Suárez. Her work has won important awards in international events, such as the International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan (1986), and the Third Ceramics Biennial in Zagreb, Croatia (1990). She has worked in porcelain, which she has also combined with fiberglass and other materials, displaying a mastery of this very difficult medium. Despite the technical difficulty inherent to porcelain, Hambleton has used it as a vehicle of artistic expression, a far cry from its traditional use in decorative and domestic articles. She has also worked with other types of clay to produce sculptural works, using oxides to create textures that allude to the passage of time.
