Mayagüez, PR, 1881-1927
Painter and architect. Along with his brother, Julio Medina, he worked on the design, construction and restoration of buildings, one his most important works being the restoration of the Yagüez Theater in the early twentieth century. Although it is unknown wether Medina received formal training as a painter, his work of his contemporary, Francisco Oller. His still-life of typical fruits, very close to those of Oller, reflect a feeling of the exaltation of what is Puerto Rican and a love of country that was imbued in the artist of his time, such as Ramon Frade and Miguel Pou. His handling of color and light, and the composition of his landscapes and still-lifes also reflect the ability and mature technique achieved by this artist.
