Painter and graphic artist. Ramos studied at Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico between 1970 and 1975, where he obtained a BFA in Painting and Silk-screening. During the years 1977-1981 and 1987-1990, he was graphic artist and, eventually, director of the Graphic Arts Workshop from the Department of Cultural Activities at the University of Puerto Rico. Currently, he is Silkscreen Professor at the San Juan Art Students League. During his long career as an artist he’s been recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the award for the best poster, given by the International Association of Art Critics, Puerto Rico Chapter, in 2004. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, both solo collectively, in Puerto Rico, United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Germany, and Cuba. In 1999 he presented his solo show Carnival at the Museum of the Americas, and in 2012 was part of the exhibition shared luggage: two islands, a language, held at the National Museum in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A component or very recurrent theme in his work, although there have been others, is the characters motif.
When paint, I do it according to my ideas and concepts. I do not paint for anyone in particular. To me, paint is a very personal and intimate act, I feel that if I painted thinking about the public it would be like compromising my freedom and my ideas.
